I first met Jake, with Heather, in 1987... my first year at the University of Oregon. I found them both to be facinating; Jake brought to mind a young Robert Smith. They both made my soujourn in Eugene bearable, mainly by showing me a life outside of the town. We would flee the humdrum of Eugene almost every weekend and head to the bright lights of Portland, especially the City Nightclub. So many interesting characters we met on those weekends...
